This was enough to make me come out of my blogging hibernation.
Whilst Charlie Sheen’s erratic behaviour has gripped the world, in a slightly quieter part of the news, John Galliano has been praising Hitler and hating the Jewish community.
After a video surfaced yesterday showing Galliano’s strange racist rants proved the weekend rumours to be true, celebrities have been choosing their sides. In his defence, Italian Vogue Editor Franca Sozzani claimed the video was a set up but on the opposing team Natalie Portman, the face of Christian Dior Parfums and a Jewish actress, issued a statement, taking the matter more personal than most.
“I am deeply shocked and disgusted by the video of John Galliano’s comments that surfaced today… In light of this video, and as an individual who is proud to be Jewish, I will not be associated with Mr. Galliano in any way. I hope at the very least, these terrible comments remind us to reflect and act upon combating these still-existing prejudices that are the opposite of all that is beautiful.”
The video, which was filmed without Galliano’s knowing, shows the designer in a drunken state, slurring scandalous statements of racial abuse in a Paris cafe. As of Friday, Galliano was suspended from his position at Dior while they investigated the matter. After police involvement and an evidential video, Dior have decided to part ways with the designer.
So who will take over the Creative Director position? Alber Elbaz and Riccardo Tisci’s names have been floating around the fashion twitters all morning…

A Louis Vuitton belt, Bruce Springsteen T-Shirt and a series of weaves are not normally associated with ten year olds. But America’s current underage gem sports all these things in her new Vanity Fair photoshoot.
